Hockey equipment is charged as a standard checked bag when securely packed inside the bag/case. Hockey sticks that are not packed securely inside a bag are subject to a separate bag charge as the bag and the sticks are two separate pieces.
Spirit Airlines has modified its hockey equipment policy for 2023, allowing up to 2 hockey sticks taped together and one hockey equipment bag to the checked in as a piece of regular baggage, but waiving the oversized baggage fee.
