The Lincoln Service between Chicago and St. Louis has been upgraded and has trains running at 90 miles per hour (140 km/h) (faster than the prior 79 miles per hour [127 km/h] limit). Service at speeds of 110 mph and higher was slated to begin in 2019.
Project Overview. The Chicago to St. Louis Corridor is 284 miles long and has distinct line configuration/ownership arrangements by line section. The Canadian National (CN) portion of the corridor between Joliet and Chicago (37 miles) is already equipped with two tracks.
More than 90 percent of the over 35 million corridor trips have origins or destinations in Chicago or St. Louis. A more balanced transportation system in the corridor would provide travelers with greater mobility options.
3 maj 2023 · Today, we rode the first, 110-mph train bound for St. Louis. Amtrak, IDOT, and the Union Pacific did a “soft launch” of full-speed service in the Chicago – St. Louis Corridor. (They will change the schedules to reflect the new travel times in a month or two.)
