The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles licenses and regulates driving schools as outlined in the Virginia Code. Driving schools are inspected regularly and reviewed for compliance with all rules and regulations.
Driver training schools are licensed by DMV to offer driver education programs statewide to residents of all ages. The program includes 36 classroom sessions, seven driving sessions, seven observation sessions and a final road skills examination. Each session is 50-minutes long.
The knowledge exam is required to obtain your driver's license/permit in Virginia. It consists of two parts and tests your understanding of traffic signs, motor vehicle laws and safe driving techniques.
