Criminal Background Check Instructions. April 12, 2021. Applicants residing in Ohio or within 50 miles of Ohio are required to utilize “Web Check” to electronically submit their fingerprints to BCII. The Board will typically receive the results of a criminal records check submitted via “Web Check” within 30 to 60 business days.
NICS Reporting. In response to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was created to check available background records on persons who may be disqualified from owning or possessing firearms.
Criminal Background Checks for Adult, Family or Youth Peer Supporter Certification. All individuals applying for Adult, Family or Youth Peer Supporter certification must obtain BOTH a BCI and FBI criminal background check.
FBI or BCI background check: You can request a copy of your own criminal history records from the FBI or Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). You will need to submit payment, your fingerprints and other personal information to get these records.
