With the sensor size, image pixel resolution, focal length, and known subject size, you can back-calculate (well, estimate) the distance between the camera and subject (assuming that the subject is reasonably parallel to the camera sensor plane).

12 cze 2017 · If you know the actual width or height and camera-to-object distant, you can easily calculate a ratio size-to-distance. Say a object is 3 meters wide and a picture is taken with the camera positioned 12 meters from the subject. The ratio size-to-distance is 3÷ 12 = 0.250.

Using the same ration idea: A 100mm lens is used to image an object 10 feet long. The image of this object at the focal plane is 20mm long.
