On a Janome, you just lift out the black circular plastic bobbin holder and pick out the lint. Make sure you're using the right weight of thread. I've owned four Janomes now, and they have been very finicky about thread.
My Janome Skyline S3 has been sewing buttonholes fine for the last few days. Apparently I reached my buttonhole limit for the year because it won’t finish a buttonhole anymore. It sews the first line fine and then jams about 1/3 of the way down the second line.
