Fred & Amy opened Behind the Wheel, Inc. in 1998 when the school district removed Driver Education from the curriculum. Fred had taught Driver Education as a semester long course for the district. When the couple inquired to the State of Kansas about opening a commercial school, they learned the State required only 8 hours of classroom instruction.
Services. Our services. In car training- Behind the wheel lessons are scheduled individually with the student, once they have passed the written test. Kansas law requires a minimum of 6 hours in car training. Driving lessons consist of 1–2-hour sessions, for a total of 6 hours minimum. Classroom- Our instructors cover Kansas driving laws.
