In 16 June 1976, students from townships started an uprising, refusing to be taught in Afrikaans. So many lost their lives, and today, English is the medium of instruction but we still have a choice to choose our mother tongues as first languages instead of second additional languages.
16 June. Youth Day. The day to be remembered. The day never to be forgotten. The day to be written on a diary. That even a grandchild that is not born would know. Youth Day. That’s when the youth of this country was tired. That’s when the youth marched for their rights.
