This article examines theoretical frameworks and models that focus on the pedagogical aspects of online education. After a review of learning theory as applied to online education, a proposal for an integrated Multimodal Model for Online Education is provided based on pedagogical purpose.
Describe each of the common distance education theories described in this chapter and elaborate on how they contribute to the overall understanding of distance education. Explain self-regulatory learning, situated learning, and collaborative learning and relate these theories to distance education.
