What I finally stumbled upon almost by accident was 2 and 3 liter soda bottles. I like sodas but hate to throw the bottles away!

They are airtight already, but can be made more so by waxing the ends with cheese wax ( here’s a great video of showing all sorts of plastic bottles being preserved this way).

21 sty 2011 · Is anyone using two liter soda bottles for storing dry goods such as rice, beans, wheat etc? They must be food grade and the plastic seems quite sturdy. How would you clean them and seal them after filling? Seems like a good use for empty bottles.
Very practical and you have the added benefit of having the empty bottle afterwards. You can cut them into string with a soda bottle cutter or use for water. You could try freezing your rice in bags first too, some people swear by it.
