The aircraft, a Boeing 747 Combi, experienced a devastating in-flight fire in the cargo area before crashing into the Indian Ocean east of Mauritius, killing all 159 people on board.

Katastrofa lotu South African Airways 295 miała miejsce 28 listopada 1987 na Oceanie Indyjskim w rejonie Mauritiusa. Samolot Boeing 747, na pokładzie którego w trakcie lotu wybuchł pożar, uderzył w wodę około 8 minut po północy. Zginęło 140 pasażerów i 19 członków załogi.
