I have purchased United travel insurance before, but mainly because I was worried about sickness or other unforeseen circumstances. Lastly, if you purchased with Chase sapphire reserve or Amex platinum, you also have some form of travel delay
My question is whether the travel insurance is really necessary, given United's change fee waiver policy. The only real benefit I can see is if I filed a claim and got a full refund, when I did book a new flight, I could fly cheaper, whereas United wouldn't refund me the difference of a lower fare if I simply rescheduled.
I have a booked flight next week and I'm receiving mixed answers from people on TripAdvisor saying you do get checked to see if you have travel insurance that covers COVID before boarding. If you don't then they deny you access. No clue what airline they were with. True or not?
