English Classes. Adult and community education. The Adult and Community Education Program program offers free day and evening classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at many locations throughout the city.
Courses include English as a Second Language (ESL), GED high school equivalency in English or Spanish, Adult Basic Education for those looking to improve reading, writing, and math skills, and Citizenship Test Preparation.
Columbus City Schools offers ESL classes at 10 high schools, 8 middle schools, and 32 elementary schools. All ESL teachers are trained in second language acquisition theory and best practices for teaching students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
The Language Institute at Columbus State Community College offers low-cost, non-credit Basic ESL classes. These courses are designed to improve the English language and literacy skills of speakers of other languages.
