16 mar 2020 · Hopper was taught by Robert Henri, a turn-of-the-century American artist with a deep admiration for Velasquez, Hals, Goya, Daumier and the pre-impressionist pictures of Manet and Degas. Henri wanted an art saturated in ‘modern life’: but he tried to realize this through physiognomy—the expressions of his subjects.
