History graduate programs offer opportunities to study historical experiences in a very wide range of different times and places, from ancient Greece and imperial China to contemporary Africa, Latin America, Europe and the United States.
We currently offer three different MA programs: A combined BA/MA History program for current OSU undergraduate students. A stand-alone MA program, new for Autumn 2025! An integrated MA program, wherein students accepted into our PhD program earn a History MA along the way to their PhD.
Application Information. The History Department admits students for Autumn semester only. Please note that applications for the PhD degree and the MA degree have separate deadlines. Ph.D. applications must be submitted no later than 11:59pm on December 1 for US applicants and 11:59pm on November 30 for international applicants.
Those who enter the PhD program with a Bachelor's degree will earn an MA in History along the way to the PhD. The Department of History is committed to a tradition of academic excellence.
