You're best bet is to look at the major routes, with competition and work from there, and do some trials, sites like Skyscanner or Kayak can help, though you may find flying closer is more expensive for the flight but cheaper in total. It would help to know your destination, as "Europe" is as vague as "North America"
I am pretty much open to flying anywhere in Western Europe, but our ultimate destination is Rome when we fly in so it would be best if it was accessible by train or a cheap flight connection from there. On the way back, I will definitely be flying out of London but any nearby airport is fine.
If, as regularly recommended on this forum, you buy the tickets direct from the airline, then the price will be the same anywhere in the world, apart from maybe minor changes arising from adjusting exchange rates.

6 years ago. Always book directly with the airline for hassle free, honest service - even if it is a little more than what you see on any of the cheap flights sites. Usually those fares aren't 'real time' and when you actually book, they have gone up in price.
NYC, BWI and ORD have really great deals on flights to Europe. If you’re not set on specific dates, use Scott’s Google Flights. I have seen flights to Europe for $280-400/roundtrip. But the $400 flights for two people that you’ve found are already pretty good.
1 post. Why are flights cheaper from Europe vs. North America? 4 years ago. Example: I can easily get flights from Dublin (my second home) to Japan easily for under $1000 Cad while flying from Toronto will cost over $1000 and I can only get under $1000 if lucky. Similarly for Hong Kong it is about $200-400 to fly from Dublin vs. Toronto.
