attending the Preparatory School you will be an Air Force Reserve airman called to active duty for the period of time necessary to complete the Preparatory School program and enter the USAF Academy.
Each prior enlisted, Guard and Reserve Basic cadet candidate must have the items listed below in his/her possession upon arrival at the Prep School. If traveling by air, ensure items comply with TSA and airline standards or place items in checked baggage. Uniform items are for Air Force service members only.
The U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School—usually referred to as "the Prep School" or "The P School"—was established in May 1961. The school's founder and first commander was Colonel Lee Charles Black. It is located on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy near the Community Center.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS. All prospective cadet candidates must: Be at least 17 years old and not have passed their 22 birthday by July 1 of the year they enter the Preparatory School. Be eligible to be a U.S. citizen. Be unmarried and have no dependents. Meet specific medical standards for a commission in the Air Force. Active Duty Airmen.
