The 73 destinations were overwhelmingly from CDG, but also from Orly to Cayenne (between 2012 and 2016) and Denpasar-Bali (in 2014).
The Airbus A340 is a long-range, wide-body passenger airliner that was developed and produced by Airbus.In the mid-1970s, Airbus conceived several derivatives of the A300, its first airliner, and developed the A340 quadjet in parallel with the A330 twinjet. In June 1987, Airbus launched both designs with their first orders and the A340-300 took its maiden flight on 25 October 1991.

Launch customers were Lufthansa and Air France, which placed the A340 into service in March of 1993. Lufthansa has been the biggest operator of the A340, with 59 A340s in its fleet at peak deployment.
The Air France Airbus A340-300 aircraft features 275 seats in a three cabin configuration: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. It is used on long-haul intercontinental routes.

1 sty 2021 · The second loss was an A340-300, F-GLZQ, in August 2005. It overshot the runway when landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport (as Air France flight 358). All passengers and crew survived, but the aircraft was destroyed.
On August 2, 2005, an AF Airbus A340-300, registered as F-GLZQ, was operating flight 358 from Paris to Toronto when meteorological conditions, including strong winds and precipitations, complicated the landing and resulted in a runway overrun.
