The committee has determined that a peak in monthly economic activity occurred in the US economy in February 2020.
For example, the NBER announced only in July 2003, 20 months after the fact, that the 2001 recession had ended in November 2001. Some models, however, can gauge how weak or strong the economy is and date business cycles in real time.
