Urban governance, simply defined, is about the formulation and pursuit of collective goals at the local level of the political system. Unlike traditional accounts of urban politics, governance theory makes no prejudgment about which social actors are most central to the pursuit of collective goals.
Good urban governance involves city governments and administrations using transparent and participatory processes. It is essential that they communicate with citizens appropriately, keep them well informed and actively involve them in local negotiation and decision-making processes.
