Normally not. Skyscanner gets the prices from providers ( airlines and online travel agents). Now a lot of these online travel agents do not have live prices, do not show all their hidden costs / fees. So in summary: Skyscanner is good to give you ideas re. routes, schedules.
The connections provided are most of the time complete and always accurate at time of search. I won't use the suggested booking portals anymore after bad experience with some of them, e.g. with Cheaptickets. I now always book directly with the airlines to reduce troubles with flight schedule changes.

I checked Skyscanner and found several excellent mainstream airlines had fares of about $3200. I selected British Airways and selected the round-trip dates and times. The booking process then offered several options for who I wanted to book through: various booking companies or British Airways itself. I selected BA and paid Skyscanner for the fare.
