RuneScape Classic (abbreviated RSC, RS1 or RS Classic), publicly released as a beta on 4 January 2001, is the second version of RuneScape (DeviousMUD being the precursor). It was replaced on 29 March 2004, with what was then known as RuneScape 2.
There are 17 free quests and 33 members quests. No new free quests were released in RuneScape Classic after membership was started on 28 February 2002 and since then there have been only 3 new free-to-play quests released in RuneScape. The quest journal lists the free quests in alphabetical order, but the members quests in chronological order.
RuneScape Classic could be found on the official RuneScape homepage when searching for "Classic" in the game guide. It was during the Classic period when the game began to develop its cult status, leading to the demand which created RuneScape 2 .
The most recent quests permanently added to the free and members' version of RuneScape are Necromancy! and Osseous Rex, respectively. The 50th quest, Legends' Quest, was released on 20 August 2003, and was also the final quest to be added to RuneScape Classic.
