No... you do not need to buy tickets to get into the Royal Observatory in order to watch the shows at Planetarium? You can buy tickets just for the Planetarium only. But the shows can be very popular so it may be well to but them in advance so as to avoid disappointment.
The Museum’s new Planetarium will be open for business. You can find showtimes online (Link coming soon) and purchase tickets at the Planetarium’s box office, located on the second floor, at the Museum. The Museum’s Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater is not currently open.
