The coat of arms of Lesotho was adopted on 4 October 2006, after Lesotho 's 40th anniversary of independence. Pictured is a crocodile on a Basotho shield. This is the symbol of the dynasty of Lesotho's largest ethnicity, the Bakoena.
The shield is placed on the Thaba Bosiu mountain, the place of the fortress of the founder of the Kingdom of Lesotho. The previous arms were granted on October 4, 1966 and show the shield in gold. The arms of Basutoland, the name of the country as a British protectorate are shown below.

Administrative division. Lesotho is divided into ten districts, each headed by a district administrator. Each district has a capital known as a camptown. The districts are further subdivided into 80 constituencies, which consist of 129 local community councils.
