Economy Class. The various flight classes codes usually include both the type of seat and a letter that designates a specific attribute of that seat. Often, the lettered codes refer to subtle differences between the fares, such as tickets that allow you to make changes without penalty versus those that are non-refundable and non-upgradeable.
Economy class, also called third class, coach class, steerage, or to distinguish it from the slightly more expensive premium economy class, standard economy class or budget economy class, is the lowest travel class of seating in air travel, rail travel, and sometimes ferry or maritime travel.
For example, A (which is zeroed out on this flight) doubles as the fare code for discounted first-class tickets and for upgrades from business to first class on a three-cabin aircraft. Meanwhile, upgrades from economy to business fall under the C fare class, while the W fare class is for premium economy, along with the P class.
