The basic wriggle. The two agreements on this page are the backbone of several of the well-known ‘wriggle’ conventions. A pass by responder is played as forcing, requiring partner to reopen with a redouble. (Note that it does not give partner the option of reopening with a five-card suit.)

There are many conventional bids in modern bridge. Some are in common use at all levels of the game - some exist only in the expert game - and some, believe it or not, exist only at the beginner level. Many of these conventions are specific to a particular point in the bidding.
If you splinter in the suit, though, he will downgrade his hand, expecting his queen and jack to be of little value facing a low singleton. A splinter bid is a double-jump in a new suit, showing a singleton or void in that suit. It indicates 4-card support and slam interest.
XYZ is a convention whereby the first 3 bids of a partnership's auction are on the 1-level (but not 1NT- over 1NT you can play some version of New Minor Forcing). SO, it goes 1-something, 1-something, then 1-of-a-major. After those 3 bids ( 1X-1Y-1Z ), the typical treatment is to use:
