The 1908 New York to Paris race was a 22,000-mile automobile endurance contest. At the end of July, two teams -- the Americans and Germans -- raced toward Paris. Time, however, was on the Americans' side as the German team had accrued penalties totaling several weeks. The Americans drove into Paris a few days after the Germans and were declared the winners.
