I personally prefer GoodNotes. It is a one time purchase, compared to Notability’s monthly subscription model. I’m sure both of them have very similar features, but I know a main thing people said they loved about Notability was you can record audio through it, but GoodNotes just added that feature too.
Both programs work; however, in testing and daily use, Notability has a latency or lag between processing the input or desire to type that impeded my workflow. I recently bought an Ipad Pro for college and I wanted to purchase a note taking app. I couldn't decide between Notability and Goodnotes 5 after reading many reviews and watching many videos on YouTube. So, I ended up buying both of them from the App Store. Notability : PROS: Notability does the small basic things really well.
notability -recording option (!!! so helpful) -limited organizing options -easier to export notes -lines/highlights are straightened automatically imo, i think in terms of plainly writing notes, i would go with goodnotes but if the recording option would be helpful for you, go with notability!
If you were looking for a great writing option in the past, you often would have been recommended Goodnotes 5 or Notability, as often times it simply came down to personal preference.Both offered similar feature and worked great on the iPad with the Apple Pencil, so it was easy to see why both were pretty evenly matched with only a couple features or abilities to seperated them.
The recent update to Notability is absolutely awful. I have been a Notability user for years, and this update finally pushed me to Goodnotes, with no regrets at all so far.
