The share of elderly people continues to increase. The population of the EU on 1 January 2023 was estimated at 448.8 million people. Children of age between 0 and 14 years made up 14.9 % of the EU's population (see Table 1), while people considered to be of working age (15 to 64 years) accounted for 63.8 % of the population.
