I'm still torn on which version of the ending is my favorite. On one hand, I absolutely love the additional shots of William, the flashbacks and the extended version of Zepp Six. And it was also somewhat cool that Tara's and Hoffman's games were connected.
Pamela (the reporter) is William's sister. The mother and son in the other cage is Hank's family. Hank is the man who had his health insurance coverage denied at the beginning of the movie. Hank's wife doesn't want to kill William but Hank's son pulls the switch and William is injected with acid.
Jill had gotten the letter that Hoffman had written to Amanda blackmailing her to kill Lynn. This meant that Hoffman affected the outcome of the Saw 3 test dooming Amanda, Lynn and Jeff. John wanted Jill to test Hoffman because of his brutality and unfair games. Whether that’s was with the RBT 2 or some other way we don’t know.

Well, it was William's test until the ending. I mean, didn't William have to unlock explosive devices to save his life? Once he passed, he became a pawn in someone's else game.
