Hi there, I know that there are a few threads going with regards to Civil Service graduate programmes and stuff but I thought I'd make a general thread for general Civil Service Jobs(Graduate and Non Graduate) for anybody looking to work as a Civil Servant.
20 gru 2020 · Depending on the role you have applied, at first you may have to take, numerical, verbal and civil service situational judgment test. It really depends on the role. If pass, then you have to submit your competency based application, which could also include your CV, qualification etc.
I applied on the civil service website for a placement, and for the past weeks it said on the update centre: ‘thank you for applying, we’re sifting applications’. This morning this changed to: ‘Your application is on hold, we’ll be in contact soon’.
20 paź 2021 · Recently graduated from my Masters. Spent a lot of time applying for civil service jobs and grad schemes. Got to interview stage for a HMRC job that I really wanted with 7 positions going in that particular office, but got an email today saying I’ve been placed on the reserve list for 12 months.
Just getting in to the Civil Service means that you can apply for a lot more jobs (the majority of jobs are only available for internal applicants). If you want a career in the civil service it doesn't really matter which grade you start as. Some graduates I know started as an AO and within 9 months they successfully applied for a HEO position.
For the employment history section I have listed my previous jobs along with detailed bullet points explaining my roles, achievements and responsibilities. For the personal statement, I have written detailed examples of competencies listed in the civil service success profiles and job description, along with motivation for applying.

Perhaps have a look at the civil service jobs website and see what is being advertised. See if anything rings a bell and attracts you. In my case, I’m an engineer, I came to the Civil Service via an Apprenticeship and sort of stayed. We get a lot of grads joining either via the various graduate schemes or directly through normal job campaigns.

Instead I’m considering working in the civil service-but is it easy to progress and what is the pay like? Any help will be appreciated as I have hardly any knowledge on it atm! You can progress if you're good, progressing means more stress and less work life balance.
